Koala Coach is a character I’ve had in mind for a while. I had to print off a page of koala photos for my sketches. Have you ever looked closely at a koala’s hands? They have five fingers, but two of them are opposable — so it’s like double-thumbs. Also, it gave me a chance to use some of the Australian vocabulary I’ve picked up from my nieces and nephews.

Tonight I drew most of this comic during a write-in with some friends. It was really fun. We read poetry over Blade Runner Blues. Also, see the angry black cloud surrounding Koala Coach’s closeup? Down there at the bottom? I made that by covering KC with masking tape, then just drawing over the top with a marker. Then you lift off the tape and the picture’s preserved. It was really cool. It woulda been way easier on a computer, but not as fun.

Also, this is my thirtieth Dinosaur Kid comic. Thirty isn’t really a landmark number, especially considering that some webcomics put out that many per month and it took me four months. But it’s the number of recommended comics before Project Wonderful takes your site seriously, or so it says somewhere in the FAQ, I think. That means I’m gonna make some ads and start buying them some space on other sites.

To celebrate, I’ve brought you a panda raising the roof.

PANDA ROOF

I made this for a coworker because they covered my shift, but I wanted to share the scan because I liked it.
